Long Beach Long Island Maternity Photography

It was an honor doing this Long Beach Long Island Maternity Photography session.  This session was planned right before the start of the summer and we had a beautiful day.  We first started the photo session by taking a few in studio portraits against a regular white background.  I always like to add some drama especially on pregnant bellies so I did a few photos with some dramatic lighting.  Afterwards we drove down to Long Beach just in time to catch the sunset.  We first did some photos on the boardwalk and then walked to the sand to get some shots with the sunset in the background.  I used both the natural golden hour light for some of the shots and some flash for some dramatic photos.  I love both styles and I always try to shoot both ways to give the client two different looks to choose from.  It is always exciting to see their reactions when they see the photos using the flash as it always illicitates a huge WOW from them.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.  Let me know which style you like better.  Pastel skies or rich and dramatic skies.  Or both.

Robert Moses/Long Island Photo Session

I did a fun Robert Moses Long Island Photo session with veteran NY Jets cheerleader, Jackie.  We started our photo shoot  by the boardwalk and took advantage of the beautiful golden setting sun as we walked  to the lighthouse.  Robert Moses is a great place to have photos taken as it has so much to offer with so many great scenes, including a lighthouse, beach and a bay.  The walk to the lighthouse takes about 15-20 minutes.  Along the way there is a nice long winding boardwalk that is surrounded with all that nature has to offer.  Sometimes a deer or two may surprise you.   Along our walk over to the lighthouse, we stopped along the way to take some creative portraits on the boardwalk.

The sun was quickly setting and it was very windy on the beach side so I opted to go by the bay.  I then got Jackie to show off her strength and athleticism by doing some huge leaps into the air.  Here is one of them.

Here is another take, this one using flash.

Two completely different looks of the same scene.  Which one is your favorite?  The top one using the natural available light or the bottom one using  flash?

We finished up our session by taking a couple of quick photos by the lighthouse.

Taylor’s Sweet 16 Long Island Event Photography.  I recently posted Taylor’s  Sweet 16 pre-event glamour photos.  Because Taylor’s party start time was when it was already dark, I explained to her family that we would have to meet three hours early on the day of the event in order to get the photos taken in the park that they wanted.  After explaining all the benefits of having a pre-event Sweet 16 photo session, Taylor’s Mom agreed.  We still planned to take some formal portraits of Taylor and her family on the day of the event.  Taylor arrived an hour early with her family and court in order to get these portraits taken in and outside Jericho Terrace.  It was a lovely night and Taylor had no problems going outside to get some cool night shots which I absolutely love taking.  She absolutely loved taking these night shots.  And Jericho Terrace certainly provided a beautiful backdrop for them.  Afterwards, we went back inside and we took some  photos with her court and her family.  A select few of those are listed below.  It was then time for the party to start and boy did this  family  know how to throw a good party.  All the kids had a blast and it was super fun capturing this event and being part of Taylor’s memorable day.

I know that I have said it many times before how much I love taking headshots.  I love working with interesting people, whether that person is a professional, business person, athlete or an artist, they  teach me about themselves and their industries and/or hobbies.  I had the pleasure of working with pop/rock singer, Amy Leo.  Amy is a passionate Long Island, NY based singer that has also traveled the US and internationally.

Many times when I first meet a client at a session they are almost always a bit nervous.  It usually takes a good 20 minutes or so before their shoulders relax and their faces soften up.  Once that happens, that is when the session really starts.  It is usually why most headshot sessions take about 30 minutes or more, especially if you need or want more than one headshot and a couple of different looks.

Amy immediately warmed up in front of my camera, she was ready from the very beginning to rock her session.   Every now and then this will happen.  Some people are just tend to be more relaxed in front of the camera.  After about twenty or so minutes into the session, Amy got even more relaxed.  The best images almost always happen about halfway through the session to the very end.  We did several looks both in studio and outside.   Here are some of my favorites from her Long Island Singer Headshots shoot:

After I finished taking  her headshots we did a few fashion/glamour inspired pictures.  Feel free to follow the link to view more of Amy’s New York glamour photos and when is the best time to book a shoot if you want pictures taken with the cherry blossoms.

Thanks, Amy.  I enjoyed working with you, you totally rock as a performer and as a person.  I wish you continued success in all your endeavors.

Long Island Beach Photos/Dancer Photo Shoot

I absolutely loved taking these beach photos of Gabby in Long Beach, Long Island this summer.  We planned for this photo shoot to take place later in the day as close to sunset as possible in hopes that we may capture some of the sunset in the photos.  You are never guaranteed to get a sunset on any given day, but it certainly helps to plan the shoot about 1 hour before so that you have a better chance of getting one.  Obviously you won’t be able to capture the sunset in your pictures if you plan your shoot mid-day.   Well needless to say the weather was crazy that day.  It rained in the morning and there were lots of dark clouds in the earlier part of the day.  No rain was in the forecast so I knew that the shoot would not need to get postponed.  I was however pretty bummed that we probably would not get a sunset.  But clouds don’t stop me from shooting or make me reschedule a session.  Clouds can provide beautiful soft diffused light, which makes for some great photos, especially taken on the beach.

I met with Gabby a bit earlier and  then the sun came out so I decided to wait awhile since the sun was too harsh and would not provide the best lighting.  Not only that but the beach was a bit crowded.  Talk about crazy weather!

We waited awhile and soon enough more and more people started to leave and the sun began to fall so we began to shoot.  We started on the boardwalk in Long Beach.
