It was an honor doing this Long Beach Long Island Maternity Photography session.  This session was planned right before the start of the summer and we had a beautiful day.  We first started the photo session by taking a few in studio portraits against a regular white background.  I always like to add some drama especially on pregnant bellies so I did a few photos with some dramatic lighting.  Afterwards we drove down to Long Beach just in time to catch the sunset.  We first did some photos on the boardwalk and then walked to the sand to get some shots with the sunset in the background.  I used both the natural golden hour light for some of the shots and some flash for some dramatic photos.  I love both styles and I always try to shoot both ways to give the client two different looks to choose from.  It is always exciting to see their reactions when they see the photos using the flash as it always illicitates a huge WOW from them.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.  Let me know which style you like better.  Pastel skies or rich and dramatic skies.  Or both.

I was this mommy’s Long Island Maternity Photographer last year when she was expecting her first child.  She contacted me a few months ago and told me that she was pregnant again with her second and wanted to have this maternity session taken at a beach in Long Island.  But wait….here is the best part.  Since she was expecting her second baby sometime around the same month as she delivered her first baby last year, she wanted to schedule the maternity shoot on the same date as she did last year!  She explained that she wanted to be able to have the photos side by side.  I told her that this was a great idea.  The only thing that we had to hope for was of course good weather.

On the day of her shoot, we met at Robert Moses State Park.  I absolutely love that beach.  It has abeautiful board walk that leads to the lighthouse and to either the bay or the beach.  I always have a tough time deciding between the bay or the beach.  Since the sun falls on the north side, the sunset is directly over the water on the bay side.  Since the beach side is on the south,  you don’t see the sun actually setting on that side, however you still get some of the remnants of the colored sky over there.    After taking some photos on the boardwalk path, we decided to go to the beach side.  I took some photos of the sun setting and then took some photos near the water.  Below are some of my favorites from the session.

I am a huge fan of silhouettes.  I just love these with the sun setting in the background.  This also allows me to get that warm orange and red in the sky.

The sky was quickly turning colors. It started as orange but then turned into  beautiful shades of pink and purple.

Back to the water and you can see the pink pastel undertones from the sky.  We clearly had a stunning sunset that evening and I am so glad that Gina got so lucky for this.

This gorgeous mother to be was looking for a Long Island Pregnancy photographer to capture some photos of her pregnancy with her family and two adorable pups.  What I love about maternity and pregnancy shoots is that it can be styled however you want and include whomever you want.  A maternity photo session can not only be taking glamorous photos of a gorgeous momma to be, but it can include some romantic photos with the daddy to be and/or the whole family.  There are no rules and specifics as to what style of a maternity session you can have.  I have had clients who just want to have some maternity glamour photos of themselves.  Other times they want the maternity session to be conducted as an engagement/couples shoot.  If they have children already, they choose to turn it into maternity/family photo session and include the kids.  Or, as in this example blog post, I was asked to do a triple combination, i.e., glamour, couples shoot and family shoot all in one.

Here are some photos from a recent shoot that was a little bit of everything.

I recently did a Long Island maternity photos session out in East Setauket.  What a beautiful location and most importantly I had an even more beautiful client.  Maternity photos are one of my favorite photo sessions to do.  What I love most about maternity pictures is that you can do so many different styled sessions.  Some clients like to do them in studio while others like to have them taken outdoors.  They can be done focusing more on mommy-to-be, the couple or even the family.  Gina wanted to do a more engagement styled session outdoors so we decided on a beautiful park out in East Setauket.  The park offered just the type of variety we were looking for.    Beautiful paths, trees, a red barn and a bamboo forest.

Here are some of my favorite images from the session.

Just look at this beautiful light!
